What is Equal Pay Day?
Dr. Goddess' Poem

The Women and Girls Foundation (WGF) promotes social change in our region by addressing fundamental social inequities and raising the awareness of these inequities to the media, to voters, to legislators, and corporate and non-profit decision makers. By serving as an independent and clear voice, the Foundation strives to bring together women and men in our region to work together to find solutions to create sustained equity for all of its citizens. WGF is part of a larger, social change movement in the United States, one that encourages individual women - as well as men - to see themselves as change agents working together to make a difference in their communities. We hope you will stand with us today and pledge your support for working to achieve equity for women and girls in our region through our Will Work for Equality campaign.

What is Equal Pay Day?

Each year, the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) organizes the national observance of Equal Pay Day to raise awareness about unfair pay for women and people of color in America. Equal Pay Day is observed in April to indicate how far into each year a woman must work to earn as much as a man earned in the previous year. Tuesday symbolizes the day when women's wages catch up to men's wages from the previous week. Because women on average earn less, they must work longer for the same pay. For women of color, the wage gap is even greater.
