ACTIVITIES
Introduction: Past Activities: Catapult

WGF 2006 program Catapult focused on decreasing our regional wage gap – one woman at a time!

Catapult has been built with these strong partners:

Nationally, women make 76 cents for every dollar a man earns…
In Pennsylvania, women earn 73 cents per dollar…
In SWPA, women earn 69 cents per dollar….

Our wage gap is not only one of the most dramatic in the country, but the AFL-CIO ranks our state 46th out of 50 for our rate in progress towards eliminating our gap…

WGF aims to change that.

Catapult will train women in the art of salary negotiation. Starting in 2008, we will provide affordable salary negotiation coaching – over the phone – to women all over Southwest Pennsylvania. Whenever a woman is coming up for an annual review or interviewing for a new job, she will be encouraged to contact WGF to be matched up with one of our trained volunteer salary negotiation coaches.

The coaches will be women and men who serve as volunteers to WGF, but who will have to attend several sessions with our team of trainers prior to becoming certified salary negotiation coaches.

In this train-the-trainers model, WGF volunteers will themselves become more savvy negotiators who will then be able to use their new skills to improve their own economic standing but who will also then train other women to succeed in this effort as well. WGF will track the results of negotiation coaching by quantifying and gathering data on the satisfaction clients have with the process and the results that they receive. And we will measure the rate and percentage of the salaries and raises successfully negotiated and achieved through the process.

While WGF will continue to be a leader in advocating to corporate and public leaders as to what they can be doing at the public policy and corporate policy level to decrease the gender wage gap on their end, WGF will be arming women with the knowledge and skills they need through Catapult to help start filling in the gap themselves.
