We are particularly interested in breaking down gender stereotypes and in creating new opportunities for girls, especially in the focus areas of: Politics, Math & Science, and Sports.
We don’t expect your project to do all of these things, but your project should aim to achieve at least one of these incredible outcomes!
Politics:
- Increase the number of girls/young women who are registered to vote
- Increase girls’ awareness of current events & make news relevant to girls’ lives
- Encourage more girls to think about running for office—within student government—or in government when they are old enough
Math & Science:
- Create fun and exciting ideas to get girls interested in math & science
- Make math and science real to real girls
- Promote awareness of women & girls who have succeeded in these areas
Sports:
- Advocate for equal funding and support for girls’ sports in schools
- Create additional opportunities for recreational sports for girls in the community
- Enhance community awareness of local girl accomplishments in sports
We are also interested in girl-led programs that:
- Encourage community dialogues that challenge stereotypes
- Promote unity and diversity in the female community
- Consider gender in relation to race, sexual orientation & socio-economics
- Develop prevention initiatives run by girls for girls i.e. pregnancy, abuse, rape
- Advocate for increased girls’ rights and opportunities in Allegheny County!
